One Framework to Support All of the Emerging Communicators on Your Caseload
What if I told you…
There is a simpler way to think about early communication skills? In this workshop, we’ll walk through a versatile framework designed to support early and emerging communicators with a variety of developmental profiles and support needs.
The Four “I” Model of Prelinguistic Skill Development is a systematic approach to supporting early communication skills with core elements that you can individualize for each child on your caseload.
In this free live workshop, we’ll explore the research on early language development and examine the prelinguistic skills that form the foundation for effective symbolic communication. We will introduce you to the Four I Model, an evidence-based approach for identifying support needs and implementing intervention strategies for emerging communicators.
You will leave this workshop with a framework for approaching prelinguistic skill development that you can start using right away in your early childhood therapy sessions.
Review the Research
We’ll begin by exploring the research on early language development and the prelinguistic skills that support communication growth. You’ll gain a clear understanding of the foundational skills that emerge before a child develops spoken language or other forms of symbolic communication.
Introduce the Four I Model
Next, you’ll be introduced to the Four I Model, a flexible framework for assessing and supporting prelinguistic skills in early and emerging communicators. We’ll break down each component of the model and discuss how it can be individualized across diverse developmental profiles, diagnoses, and communication needs.
Group Brainstorming Session
During our interactive group brainstorming session, you’ll have the opportunity to apply the framework to clinical scenarios and collaborate with other participants. Together, we’ll generate practical intervention ideas based on the Four I Model and explore what implementation looks like in a real-life therapy session.
Meet Your Instructor
I’m Laura Brown, a pediatric speech-language pathologist, early intervention specialist, and mom of three. I’ve spent my career partnering with families of infants and toddlers to support early communication skills. I believe in a relationship-based approach that prioritizes joyful, child-led interactions.
In the Prelinguistic Skills Workshop, I share my proprietary framework for helping clinicians and educators confidently assess and support early communication development. This practical, flexible model can be applied across a wide range of developmental profiles, including late talkers, autistic children, and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities
